Do you suffer from dry, chapped lips? You’re not alone!

At our practice, we care about your oral health and the look of your smile, a portion of which has to do with the health of your lips. These days, cold weather — plus all that time behind a face mask — can be irritating to your pink pucker-ers. And nothing is more soothing than a good lip balm to relieve the discomfort.

You can purchase lips balm in any drug store or on line — you may even have a favorite brand and flavor. But DIY lip balms are inexpensive, fun to concoct, and they make a great little gift on a tight budget (hopefully the recipient wasn’t expecting a ticket for cocktails in space with Richard Branson).

First, let’s check in with the folks at Brain Stuff to learn what causes chapped lips in the first place – the answer may surprise you!

And now for the recipes…

So how do you make this stuff at home in your own kitchen? You’re in luck — we’ve already scoured the Web for the most enticing homemade lip balm recipes. We found some great ones — and here they are…

Recipe #1: “But I’m in a hurry!”

Looking for a recipe that hits the spot, but doesn’t take a lot of time to do? Let’s hear it out with Brooke from WhatsUpMoms for a great 5-minute formula.

Recipe #2: And now for something completely different…

Looking for a look that’ll make your look look more out-there looking? (That’s a lot of looks!) Check in with Sara from SaraBeautyCorner. She may have the answer – lip balms made from candy and crayon wax. (Say what?!)

Recipe #3: How’s orange-cranberry sound?

If you’re like us, sometimes you just get that urge for orange-cranberry lip balm. Am I right? Here’s Ray (at least, we think that’s her name) from HumblebeeAndMe.com with a simple way to prepare a tasty, aromatic, tinted lip balm you’ll love.

Recipe #4: And then, there was shea butter and almond oil … ahhh …

Seeking the perfect, luxuriously soft, soothing lip balm? Join yoga teacher and wellness coach, Jennifer Partridge (she’s from Australia, mate), as she shows you how easy it is to make.

You’ve got the recipes … now go do lip balm!

If you’ve got chapped lips, and you need a break from staring aimlessly at your computer screen, doing something tactile (yes, you actually have to move your body) like making your own lip balm is the perfect get-away without leaving your home. Plus it’ll position you as a super-human over-achiever to your family and friends.

So good luck! May you find happiness, healthy-ness, and may your lips always be the moist-est. And, if you want to improve other parts of your mouth like, say, your teeth, give our office a call today!
